The Old Grey Muzzle Tour 2015 kicks off on March 6th!  This year’s 68-day scientific expedition includes 14 visits to study exceptionally long-lived Rottweilers in the U.S. and 11 Celebration/Education Stops to enthusiastically spread the scientific word.  The face of the 2015 Muzzle Tour banner is “Annika”, a Rottweiler who was visited by Dr. Waters during the 2013 Tour and is still kicking at the age of 15.  She’s a “supercentenarian”!

The 2015 Muzzle Tour marks Dr. Waters’ first cross-country trek since he changed his academic affiliation.  In December 2014, Dr. Waters stepped down from his professorship at Purdue University so he could devote his full-time energies at the Murphy Foundation’s Center for Exceptional Longevity Studies, focusing on aging research and science education.  In the past years, Dr. Waters has come to recognize how difficult it is for people to respond to the deluge of new information on health.  And now more than ever, it’s important for each of us to take charge of our own health and wellness.  Dr. Waters believes this problem creates an opportunity and he wants to seize it!  So now, to maximize how people’s lives can benefit from research on health, disease prevention, and successful aging, Dr. Waters is shifting his education focus away from teaching veterinary students and toward transforming K-12 science education as a means of improving people’s ability to respond to new information.  And right out of the chute, as part of the 2015 Muzzle Tour, Dr. Waters will be presenting a webinar on March 24 targeted to high school students interested in science writing.  What an exciting start!

Speaking of new information, this year we have prepared a terrific, information-rich Healthy Longevity Notebook to commemorate the 2015 Old Grey Muzzle Tour and help make you and your pets healthier.  The Healthy Longevity Notebook features 15 of our most significant published works on cancer, aging and discovery-education, along with a new collection of scientific literature on human health  everything from physical activity to inflammation, from genetics to your gut bacteria.  This year’s Notebook even has a special note to Dr. Waters from  Carl, the infamous Rottweiler of the Good Dog Carl series of children’s books!  And of course, the Notebook provides room for your own health diary — 190 journal pages for you to record information about your health and your pet’s health.  These Healthy Longevity Notebooks support the work of Dr. Waters and the Murphy Foundation.  Your contributions make the amazing research of the Old Grey Muzzle Tour possible!  Get your very own Healthy Longevity Notebook or make a donation to this research.
